Developing Unplanned Areas in Cairo

Executive Director of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency Ms. Nevine Gamea, and Cairo Governor Eng. Atef Abd EL Hamid signed 4 contracts worth 87.5 Million EGP targeting the development of unplanned settlements in Cairo. Enterprise Development Agency contributed with 83,350 Million EGP while the remaining amount were local contributions. This project will create around 105 thousand job opportunities man/days. 
Cairo Governor stated the launching of this project coincides with the governorate’s National Day and added the governorate places great emphasis on upgrading unplanned areas This comes in harmony with the State’ plan on developing impoverished and unplanned areas according to which works on dangerous areas will be finalized by end 2018. He said this will be implemented parallel to the improvement of services within unplanned areas through "Development by Participation." 
Meanwhile, Executive Director of Enterprise Development Agency said the project aims at carrying out activities to upgrade utilities in deprived and underdeveloped areas and create job opportunities for the unemployed youth as well. She stressed that project funding is allocated from the EU and the French Development Agency. 
Ms. Gamea also stated that these contracts aim at developing infrastructure: renovation and maintenance of schools and health units and improvement of main roads at Ezbet Khairalla and Al Zawya Al Hamra areas.
